HISTORY:
Starting at Bootleg Brewery as a home-brewing bartender in 1998, “Brookesy” quickly displayed an interest for the more technical side of beer.
When presented with the opportunity, he progressed through our brewing team ranks to learn the art of craft brewing, and soon took on the role of head brewer when it came available.

MICHAEL BROOKES - PROFILE
Born in Buxton, Derbyshire, England.
Grandson of a baker and son of a fitter/turner.
Michael migrated to Australia with his family in 1974 and settled in Perth.
With his vibrant personality and memorable hairstyle, Bootleg's Head Brewer Michael Brookes would have to be one of the most passionate and successful craft brewers in Australia.
Starting at Bootleg Brewery as a home-brewing bartender in 1998, "Brookesy" quickly displayed an interest for the more technical side of beer. When presented with the opportunity, he moved progressed through our brewing team ranks to learn the art of craft brewing, and soon took on the role of head brewer when it came available.
Michael and his team have crafted and developed such beers as the Settlers Pale Ale, Light Lager, Toms Amber Ale, 10th Anniversary Indian Pale Ale, American Pale Ale, and The Grandfather (barley wine), all of which have received Silver medals at the AIBA. Most recently, Michael has created a German-style Wheat Beer "Hefe" (short for hefeweisen).
Michael recalls some of his career highlights as the Wils Pils winning three gold medals at the Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA), including taking out Best Australasian Draught lager in 2002 and the Raging Bull winning 3 golds, including winning Best Packaged Porter at the AIBA and Best Dark Ale at the Australian Beer Awards.
When he isn't brewing our fantastic beers, Michael enjoys mountain bike riding around Margaret River terrain, surfing some of WA's best surf breaks and he absolutely loves his cricket, opening the bowling for the Margaret River Hawks.
